Welcome to the home page of the original founders Maikeli & Vake Wolfgramm the parents of the 8 oldest members of their 17 kids. The Jets consisted of 2 brothers that were adopted..Eddie and Eugene from Samoan descent with LeRoy, Haini, Rudy, Kathi, Elizabeth, Moana. The parents immigrated to the United States in 1965 from the Tongan Islands in the South Pacific with LeRoy who was only 3 months old. They first settled in the Salt Lake City, Utah area and then moved to San Diego and San Francisco from 1967-1970. They then moved back to Utah where Maikeli secured a job with Safeway Milk Department. They started the band with 11 year old LeRoy as the bandleader & formed a 3 piece band with his younger brothers Haini 8 yrs old on bass & Rudy 7 yrs old on Drums. They later added Kathi on Keyboards. The family toured as a Polynesian review show first to Canada, Alberta & British Columbia. By 1981 They secured some contracts for a Hawaiian hotel chain in the midwest in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Minneapolis, Minneasota & Fargo North Dakota rotating to each city every 3 months. The Hotel chain went bankrupt in 1982 and the family then changed there act to a top 40 dance band playing the clubs and bar circuit as “Quazar” the name they called themselves. by 1984 they become very successful and was introduced to Don Powell the former executive manager at Motown records who managed Stevie Wonder and the Jacksons and discovered David Bowie. The bands agent at the time brought Don to one of their clubs and Don was smitten with the family and band. They soon after signed a management & production deal with Don’s company Twin Town Records. The bands name was changed from “Quazar” to “The Jets”. Don was able to eventually land for the band a 7 year 7 Album 4 million dollar record Deal with MCA Records in Los Angeles a year later. The Band was able to score 8 top 10 Billboard Hits worldwide from 1985-1989 and toured on 2 USA Tours and 3 World Tours with multiple Television appearances on Oprah Winfrey, Arsenio Hall Show, Soul Train, Dick Clarks American Bandstand, the Grammys, and the American Music Awards etc. This Facebook page is dedicated to the hard work that our parents worked & sacrificed so hard to pioneer the first Polynesian Tongan music act to ever make it on a Global world music business level to which we give all GLORY to the Living GOD of Heaven.
